Hello
* Specify any dress requirements e.g. black tie, smart, no jeans etc
* Will food be served? (If it's not a dinner/lunch party)
* When will it finish?
* If children are invited, make this clear and include their name on the invitation. However, if you want a child-free party, include a short tactful note, such as: 'We are sorry, but we are unable to accommodate children'
* Put maps and directions to the ceremony and reception venues and be sure that car-parking areas are clearly marked. If appropriate, include a list of nearby hotel/guests houses and their prices.

Wedding invitations are usually sent approximately six weeks prior to the wedding date. However in order for families to be organized they are often sent out considerably earlier than this.

If you include response cards then these should be returned no later than 4 weeks before the wedding. Once these acceptances have received, you will be in a better position to send out the evening invitations. If the reception venue you have booked requires you to seat a minimum number of guests then guests from your evening list can replace any guests invited to the day who are unable to make it.

Once your wedding date has been agreed you will be able to inform close family and friends of the date that you have booked. You might like to send out 'Save The Date' cards.

You should allow one invitation per family including a courtesy one for the groom's parents and the minister and their partner. Also include family and friends who you may already know cannot come, but who would appreciate receiving an invitation, for example a grandparent.

What do brides generally pay for wedding invitations? I know some brides have paid £4-£5 per invite. Some quotes i received for wedding stationery was £2-£3. Would be keen to find out what others are paying

(This is going to sound incredibly harsh. I'm sorry but I don't mean it to be mean or rude...)
Only YOU think about your wedding enough to consider the details like whether or not the stationary matches.

Think back to the last wedding you went to...even if it was this past weekend. Do you remember the Save the Dates? The invitations? The programs? The directions? The place-cards? The thank you cards? Of what you do remember, did it all match?

Order what you like. I promise nobody will think less (or more!) of you for it. This is your wedding DAY and this decision will not haunt you forever even if they all come out wrong.

My wedding was three years ago. I didn't do Save the Date cards, my invitations/RSVPs were very expensive and very nice, my program and directions were done on "plain" paper (didn't even match because I couldn't find the right color!), and my thank you cards were from Wal-Mart. Of course I remember all of this for my own wedding. The last wedding I went to was in June. The Save the Date was a magnet, I totally forget what the invitation looked like, and I haven't gotten the Thank-you yet. I don't have the invitation to compare it to, though.
